-One of the highest-rated attractions in town. You can board historic trains, ride a mini train, and explore Danish railway history from the 1800s to today. Great for all ages.

Odense Castle (Odense Slot) ⭐ 4.1 (centre-north)

The grounds and park are open 24/7 and make for a lovely stroll, especially since it’s right next to the train station.

Hans Christian Andersen House ⭐ 4.2  (centre-north)

The must-see museum dedicated to the famous fairy tale author, featuring immersive interactive exhibitions and multilingual audio guides. Magical for adults and children alike.

Ticket online: 165-175 DKK (free under 18 years, but must book) – includes access to Andersen’s Home as well (can be booked on same day, there seems to be plenty of availability)

TIME – Museum for Odense ⭐ 4.3

Covers 10,000 years of local history in a beautiful Renaissance-era setting. Entry is free if you’ve already visited H.C. Andersen’s House.

Hans Christian Andersen’s Childhood Home ⭐ 4.0 (city hall area)

A tiny, atmospheric cottage where the writer grew up. Also free with the H.C. Andersen’s House ticket and a lovely complement to the main museum.

A hands-on museum of 20th-century Danish everyday life where you can touch, sit on, and interact with everything. A hidden gem.

Zoo ⭐ 4.5 (south)

A well-loved zoo with impressive rainforest and penguin biomes. Some visitors rate it above Copenhagen’s zoo, and it’s notably affordable.

The Funen Village ⭐ 4.5 (extra-south)

A charming open-air museum recreating 19th-century rural life on the island of Funen. Best on weekends when historical interpreters are present.

Odense Bunkermuseum (south-east)

Not much in English, except for guided tours.

Egeskov Castle ⭐ 4.5

One of Europe’s best preserved Renaissance water castles, dating to 1554.
The current owner, Count Ahlefeldt, has added numerous features, including a maze, walk-among-the-treetops and a vintage auto museum, toy museum, kitchen garden, and more, all in a scenic park.
